MCC Gets Huge Road Win
MCC defeats Delta 3-1
September 23, 2024
The MCC volleyball team traveled to University Center, MI to take on the Pioneers of Delta College in another conference matchup. Last year, the Jayhawks lost to the Pioneers in both meetings. It was a different story this time as MCC won 3-1 with set scores of 20-25, 25-19, 25-18, 25-22.
The Jayhawks started off strong in set one before the Pioneers came roaring back to take the win. MCC didn't look back as they took the next 3 sets. Although they trailed 18-14 in the 4th set the Jayhawks found a way to come back and win giving them their second win in conference play.
The offense was led by sophomore outside hitter Madisyn Dykema with 16 kills (.359%) followed by sophomore Ana Trevino with 11 kills (.333%). Shelbie Schoenborn picked up 45 assists and 3 of her own kills. Dykema tallied 7 digs, 2 aces, and 2 block assists.
Defensively, freshman Kaylee Balcom stepped up and picked up 18 digs which is good for a team and match high. Sophomore Kayla Fisk finished with 5 block assists and 1 block solo while picking up 3 digs.
The Jayhawks served tough behind the line picking up 12 team total aces.
The MCC volleyball gears up for a busy week as they host the Timberwolves of North Central Michigan College on Tuesday at 6:30pm in Bartels-Rode Gymnasium. They will travel to Bay College on Friday and Alpena Community College on Saturday to conclude their long week of conference play. The Jayhawks currently sit 2-0 in conference.
