Title: MCC VB goes 3-1 at Owens Invitational
MCC picked up a pair of wins by sweeping Cuyahoga 3-0 and defeated Lakeland (OH) 3-1 in Perrysburg, OH. The team tallied 82 kills on the day for a hitting percentage of .238. The Oakridge native, Madison Babinec led the offense with 23 kills (.250) followed by sophomore, Ana Trevino with 18 kills (.341). Sophomore setter Shelbie Schoenborn grabbed 80 assists, 2 kills, and served up a team high of 5 aces on the day.
Defensively, freshman Kendall Barnhart picked up 22 digs for a team high and freshman Ellerie Moy dominated at the net with 11 block assists.
The Jayhawks split their matches on Saturday by defeating Hagerstown 3-2 before falling to Southwestern Michigan in a thrilling 5 set match.
In game one, the Jayhawks came back from losing the first 2 sets to winning the next 3 in a reverse sweep. Trevino led the team with 12 kills and added 4 blocks. Madisyn Dykema and Babinec both contributed with 8 kills a piece, respectively.
In the second game, Babinec led the offense with 19 kills while also adding 19 digs for a double-double. Trevino chipped in 15 kills followed by Dykema with 11. Schoenborn dished out 57 assists and picked up 15 digs.
