Jayhawks move on to second round
MCC defeats NCMC led by Arrionna Williams 16 points.
The MCC women's basketball team hosted North Central Michigan Tuesday night for the first game of the NJCAA Division II Great Lakes District A Women's Basketball Championship.
The Lady Jayhawks had a powerful start in the first half of the game leading 15-4 within the first quarter. The Jayhawks immediately proved to the Timberwolves that it was not going to be an easy fight. The entire game was full of intensity. Defense was highly effective, and offensive was good compared to the first match up against North Central. At the half Jayhawks, led by 15. In the final push, the Lady Jays finished off the Timberwolves for the third and final time 73-42.
Top players of the game were Arrionna Williams (#20) with 16 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, and 7 steals. Anna Lundquist (#30) with a double-double of 14 points, 15 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals, and 2 blocks. Jayna Edmondson (#2) with 12 points, 3 rebounds, and 1 assist. And Tyvi Davis (#23) with 6 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals.
Head coach Jason Cooper said "Our team has come back this week after being down with sickness and despite everything we won this game. It's on to the next one now. "
