MCC falls to Mid Michigan
First half woes too much for MCC to over come against a tough Mid Michigan team.
January 30, 2025
The Jayhawks were handed their second conference loss 109-77 against the Mid-Michigan Lakers. The Lakers jumped on Muskegon quickly, garnering a 20-point lead with only a few minutes left in the first half. The Lakers' combination of speed, athleticism, three-point scoring and fastbreak offense was too much for the Jayhawks, and Mid Michigan led 57-31 after 20 minutes of play. The Jayhawks were much more competitive in the second half, but the Lakers' 26-point lead from the first half was too much to overcome. Despite the loss, sophomore forward Joe Russau had a standout game, scoring 31 points efficiently, shooting 12-16 from the field and 7-8 from the charity stripe. Russau also added 12 rebounds to complete his impressive double-double performance. Sophomore guard Will Chye chipped in 17 points and freshman Ny'Zhem Marshall finished with 12 points, 11 rebounds and four assists. The loss pushed the Jayhawks record to 10-9 and 2-2 in conference play. Muskegon hopes to capture a conference win in their next matchup against Kirtland Community College on Saturday, February 1st. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
