Jayhawks Win Second in a Row

The Muskegon Community College Jayhawks started conference play with an emphatic win against the Alpena Community College Lumberjacks 82-51 at Bartels-Rhode Gymnasium. The Jayhawks who were coming off a big win to end their losing streak came out and defended their home court once again, holding Alpena to a substandard 25.8% from the field and just 14.3% from behind the arc. The Lumberjacks found themselves in a 12-point hole heading into halftime, trailing the Jayhawks 36-24. The Jayhawks bested their first half defensive effort with an even more impressive performance in the second half of play; Muskegon started the first half by holding the Lumberjacks to a ludicrous two-point total in almost ten minutes of play. Muskegon also forced 21 Alpena turnovers for the game, leading to easy points in transition. The Jayhawks outscored the Lumberjacks 46-27 in the second half and are now 8-7 overall (1-0 in conference play.)All five starters for the Jayhawks eclipsed the double-digit mark in scoring. Sophomore guard Will Chye led the Jayhawks in scoring with another impressive scoring performance finishing with 18 points and five rebounds with impressive shooting splits (63.6% FG 50% 3PT). Freshman forward Ny'Zhem Marshall added 11 points and 13 rebounds. Sophomore guard Darius Williams stuffed the stat sheet with ten points, five rebounds, six assists, a block and seven steals. Sophomores Joe Russau and Kevon Washington finished with twelve and ten points respectively. Muskegon hopes to continue their conference success in their next matchup at Delta College on Wednesday, January 15 at 7:30 PM.
