Jayhawks Snap Losing Streak with win over DCC

The Jayhawks put a halt to their losing streak by defeating Community Christian College (Mich.) 76-69 Tuesday night at Bartels-Rhode gymnasium. The Jayhawks brought a defensive intensity to their home court from the tip-off, and the Jayhawks held Community Christian to just 28.6% from the field and 23.1% from the three-point line in the first half. However, 11 first half turnovers and some team shooting struggles caused Muskegon to trail 30-29 at the half.

After their scoring struggles early, the Jayhawks were able to capitalize in transition in the 2nd half and enjoyed scoring outbursts from multiple starters. Sophomore guard Will Chye scored a game high 23 points and contributed eight rebounds, five assists and two steals. Sophomore guard Darius Williams added 15 points and five rebounds. Sophomore forward Joe Russau finished with a double-double, posting 14 points and ten rebounds. The array of scoring and effort from the starters helped lead the Jayhawks to a 47-point second half and a 76-69 victory. The win moves the Jayhawks record to 7-7. The Jayhawks will start conference play this weekend on Saturday, January 11th against Alpena Community College at Bartels-Rhode Gymnasium. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
