November 20, 2024
The Muskegon Jayhawks were dealt their second loss of the season at the hands of Grand Rapids Community College, who was replaced this year by Montcalm Community College in Muskegon's Northern Conference. The Raiders jumped on the Jayhawks early, outscoring the Jayhawks 27-8 within the first ten minutes of the game. The Raiders were able to run in transition for easy baskets after countless stops on the defensive end. The Raiders held the Jayhawks to just 32.4% from the field in the first half and led Muskegon 58-31 after 20 minutes of play. Unfortunately for the Jayhawks, the Raiders' offense was firing on all cylinders, effectively scoring from all three levels. Grand Rapids Community finished the game shooting 53.3% from the field and 40% from behind the arc. The Raiders finished with an impressive 56 points in the paint and held a lead from the 19-minute mark in the first half all the way to the final buzzer. Despite the tough loss, sophomores Joe Russau and Will Chye both provided a solid performance for the Jayhawks. Russau ended with 23 points in 27 minutes of play and Chye added 18 points, five rebounds and four assists. The loss moves the Jayhawks record to 4-2.
Muskegon hopes to get back into the winning column next Saturday, November 23rd against Southwestern Michigan College at the 1st Source Bank Fieldhouse. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
