Muskegon Falls to Delta College in Walk-Off Thriller
The Jayhawks dropped a heartbreaker to Delta College on Wednesday, falling 8-7 on a walk-off in the final play of the game.
Despite the loss, Muskegon managed six hits in a back-and-forth battle.
The Jayhawks struck early, plating two runs in the first inning after Brock Thornton drew a walk and Carter Hughes grounded into a double play, each resulting in a run.
Muskegon tacked on two more in the second when Lawson Doyle grounded out, bringing in a pair.
In the third, Hughes delivered an RBI single, and Aidan Buchberger drew a bases-loaded walk to extend the lead.
Joshua Wickstrom got the start on the mound, tossing six innings while allowing three hits and three runs (two earned). The left-hander struck out three and issued eight walks.
Hughes, Thornton, and Doyle each drove in a run for the Jayhawks. Ryne Christensen paced the offense, going 3-for-4 at the plate. Buchberger swiped two bases, and Muskegon was aggressive on the bases all game, totaling four steals. The defense turned one double play on the day.
Dayton Thomas Shines as Jayhawks Top Delta College 10-6
Dayton Thomas had a standout performance at the plate, driving in four runs on two clutch hits to lead Muskegon past Delta College 10-6 on Wednesday. Thomas got things started in the first inning with a two-run single, then came through again in the fifth with another two-run knock.
Muskegon struck early, putting two runs on the board in the first thanks to Thomas's bat.
The Jayhawks broke the game open in the top of the fifth, exploding for seven runs on five hits to take a commanding 9-2 lead. Thomas delivered the key hit in the inning, a single that brought in two more runs.
Brenden Maka got the start for Muskegon, tossing four innings while giving up four hits and three runs (one earned). He walked five and did not record a strikeout. Noah Morgan provided solid relief, throwing one scoreless inning with one hit, one strikeout, and one walk.
The Jayhawks showed patience at the plate, drawing nine walks in the game. Bryce Luevano and Lawson Doyle each earned two free passes. On the basepaths, Aidan Buchberger and Nathan Dodd each swiped multiple bags, helping Muskegon rack up seven stolen bases as a team.
